マーク・トーマス・ウォーカー（M T WALKER）はオーストラリアのヴィクトリア州マレー地方のビデオアーティストである。
彼はロンドンでの生活を経て（2008年迄）、メルボルンのビクトリア大学で、グローバリゼーションを研究。RMITで（優等付き）美術学士号を取得し、RMITで大学院の3年間の奨学金を得ている。
代表作ビデオ詳説は、2014年にメルボルンのラグランストリートギャラリーにてニューメディア賞を受賞した。‬‬
‪作品の特徴としてはビデオアートによって歴史的な学説と政治哲学の再文脈化を意図しているが、内容はそれぞれ無数の観客テーマごとに編集されている。
彼の持つ政治哲学の関心が専門性のある文学史研究によって補完され、芸術表現として成立する。
ACCA & NGVなどの会場で知名度の高いショーのインストールアシスタントとしての経緯があり、ウェブサイト”infx.com.au” では、舞台上映やエキシビジョンの内容を公開している。
そして現在、ローンフィルム、メルボルン国際映画祭（MIFF）のテクニカルコーディネーターを務めている。

ローマ字は西洋世界から発せられる言語を、淡く日本語での発音として表現したものだ。
この作品のアーティスト、マーク・トーマス・ウォーカーも彼のビデオアート作品は同様の動機から生まれていると感じている。彼の取り組みは、この日本、京都で彼の作品の鑑賞者に対し彼の表現する現代的なアジア政治理論を転写することにある。‬

Econasiaシリーズは、4年スパンの記録写真で、9つのシングルおよびマルチチャンネルビデオアート作品を網羅するプロジェクトだ。
Econasia：”Romaji”には北朝鮮、日本、インドネシア、及びマレーシアにおける人の手によるものと自然環境、その両方を調査した4つの映像作品が組み込まれいる。地域の社会的、政治的学説が関連付ける、いわゆる”Asian Century”へと導いた、経済的かつ政治的な影響が、政治学を物語る現代文学、音声、そして不自然な物語と織り交ざっている事を動画の中で表現している。‬

STATEMENT:
Romaji (ローマ字) is a term that defines the romanisation of Japanese
script to aid translation of that language into roman characters. The
term loosely describes the phonetic translation of Japanese language
to English (or romanised) languages emanating from the Western
world. This title is chosen by the artist as Mark feels that the production
of his video art works are born from a similar pursuit. This effort is to
transcribe his ideas of political theory in contemporary Asia to those
people viewing his works in Kyoto, Japan.
The Econasia series is a project that has spanned four years and
encompasses nine single and multi-channel video art works, with
accompanied photographs.
Econasia: Romaji incorporates 4 of these video works that investigate
both the man-made and natural environments in North Korea, Japan,
Indonesia and Malaysia. Local social and political accounts that relate
the economic and political influences driving the so-called Asian
Century are interwoven with modernist literature, sound, and contrived
narratives that depict political science in the moving image.
M T WALKER　PROFILE:
I am a Video Artist from the Mallee region of Victoria, Australia. I studied a
Bachelor of Arts in Globalisation at Victoria University, Melbourne before
moving to London where I lived intermittently until 2008. I have recently
completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts (with Honours) at RMIT and am the
recipient of a 3-year scholarship to pursue a Master of Fine Arts (Research) at
RMIT. I was the recipient of the Raglan Street Gallery’s Excellence in New
Media prize in 2014, for my video Explicate.
I produce works that promote a re-contextualisation of historical account and
political philosophies; relating to the audience myriad thematic approaches
portrayed in the moving image. My interest in political philosophy and its’
application to artistic expression is complemented by my BA studies that
majored in history & politics. I publish the website ‘infx.com.au’, stage
screenings and art exhibitions, and have worked as an installation assistant for
high-profile shows at venues including ACCA & NGV. I am currently
employed as Technical Co-ordinator at Lorne Film and the Melbourne
International Film Festival (MIFF).
